Drawings & Graphic Prints by Karina Mosegård
Karina Mosegård is a Danish contemporary artist whose extensive work in drawing and graphic printmaking spans several decades. Her artistic journey combines the deepest respect for traditional craftsmanship with a deep exploration of the subconscious and the abstract. Her artistic journey started early. At the age of 16, she received private lessons from the renowned Danish artist Hans Christian Høier in Birkerød. Under his guidance, she learned all the classic, traditional drawing and printmaking techniques from scratch. She took this solid foundation of craftsmanship with her to her formal education at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (1989-1995) and later a Master of Fine Arts from the Universität der Künste (UdK) in Berlin (1996-1997).
Abstract drawings: Where the focus shifts from depicting the physical world to expressing moods, fragments and unpredictable universes.
Large formats: She often works with large murals and large-format drawings that involve the space around her. In recent years, her process has drawn threads towards surrealist automatism (automatic drawing). This is a technique that originally originated with the surrealists in the 1920s. It involves letting the hand move freely across the paper without any conscious control, planning or self-censorship.
The paranormal experience: By completely disconnecting the rational brain, she opens up to the subconscious. For many artists and viewers, this state borders on a spiritual or paranormal experience, where the paper becomes a channel for the invisible, the fleeting and the deeper layers of the human psyche.
